Food Cravings Out Of Control?

Do you have food cravings?

How many diets have you been on that were totally sabotaged by giving in to your cravings?

It seems we can make all kinds of good decisions to eat healthy, exercise, REALLY lose weight this time. Then we get a little stressed, or we catch the aroma of something, or we see someone else eating what we love. It is at that moment that all resistance and willpower fade away and we give in to our cravings!

Once we give in, we often are filled with guilt or even hatred toward ourselves for not being able to control that craving. There goes our self-esteem and in comes those little words that say, “I’m such a failure at this. Ill never lose this weight. I might as well go ahead and eat what I want.”

So what are some ways to deal with cravings? Here are a few ideas.

1. DO NOT bring the food you crave into the house. Even if that affects other family members, explain that it is for your health and even sanity that the food not enter your home.

2. When that craving gets going, get yourself a big glass of water. Drinking water will assuage your craving because the water is satisfying a need of your body. Then wait a full fifteen minutes. Set the timer and go do something else. When the time goes off it is likely that your craving will be gone.

3. Grazing at a get-together can sabotage all of your success. So head to the vegetable end of the table, put what you want on a plate, and then move away from the table. Take a glass of water with you. Find an interesting person to talk with.

4. When you see someone eating what you crave, turn around, move away from them, and go look for a glass of water. Our bodies are satisfied when we give them water and that helps our cravings to stay away.

So what is the connection between cravings and weight loss? I believe that we can all do quite well on a healthy choice of foods if we do not have our cravings flare up. What if you didn’t have any cravings? You wouldn’t be eating that bag of chips or that bowl of Kisses or that extra helping of pasta. If those cravings could be removed, I truly believe that your weight loss will become much simpler.

Here are two alternatives to overcoming your cravings:

1. Hypnotherapy can help your subconscious mind find the reason for your cravings. Once your subconscious has figured it out, your conscious mind can then control this emotional connection to eating a food you crave.

2. A second method is called Tapping, which is Emotional Freedom Technique. When this system is used, the body’s negative energy becomes positive energy. Then, cravings disappear and your desire for this food is very neutral.

Most people struggle with their cravings. Sometimes they hit us unexpectedly and we lose control of the situation. Don’t let that happen. Grab that glass of water and drink it down. If you give yourself some time, your craving will go away and you will be in control.

What Is Self Esteem?

Part of being human is the fact that we fail, but we need to bounce back and have another go. Low self esteem means that we are frightened and timid and anxious about everything and in essence, we are setting ourselves fail before we start because we do not feel that we deserve to win. That sense of low self esteem is a handicap in life generally, but when you have a cancer it is shooting yourself in the foot twice. John Bowlby was the British psychologist that studies the bond between babies under two and their mothers. He developed the attachment theory as a way of describing how self esteem works. According to him attachment was

A low self esteem is fostered in childhood, normally because the only way children have of estimating their worth knows that adults value them and take care of them. This means that children are accepted for the being they are;they are not judged or criticized, in fact they are praised for every small achievement.

Hypnosis can help in making adults more confident by adjusting the way that they value themselves, that they do have a worth. It needs to knock down years of feeling inferior, but it can be done. Just because a negative thought enters your head does not mean that you have to accept that thought or act on it. This is something top athletes are trained in, they reject feelings that they cannot win. It is possible to control your thinking and for many people hypnosis is the start of that process.
